2008 in photographs

THIS has absolutely nothing to do with skateboarding, but if you can't appreciate it as pretty amazing then you are a jerk.

A few people have asked about the Reskue video recently, most sections are finished and it is looking pretty rad,but unfortunately the computer I was using to edit is on hiatus until monday, and then getting copies made will take a while too during the festive period, so realistically it might not be officially out until the new year, if I get a copy done i'll probably play it a bit in the shop, but you should buy it you cheapskates!
I'm gonna try and work out a deal where you get a package of deck, tee and DVD at a bargain price, but you'll have to wait and see.

Sickness

This video is gonna be rad, Jimmy Mcdonald section and an awesome line up of underdog skateboarders, oh and the first of this weekends Battle at the Berrics is up too.
Speaking of rad videos, the chief has put all the old Zero videos up on the Black Box site to download for $3.99 which is probably £3 or something, definately worth it!

New Dwindle stuff

All our new Enjoi, Almost, Blind and Darkstar stuff came today.
So we are now really well stocked for christmas, we have over 100 decks, 20 set-ups and 50 sets of wheels, making us the best place for skate hardware in Southampton, and beyond!

Christmas Bits!

The first of the christmas bits for the weekend have arrived, including Independent lows at a new cheaper price (£45 a pair) and Bones Reds now a quid cheaper at £16.99!
We also have some Fox trucks which are a mid priced truck (£25 a set!) but have USA made rubbers and actually turn! They are definately good value for money and we are going to be getting a lot more in the future, if you are thinking of geting your first board or are on a budget they are great!

I have had a lot of mums coming in asking for decks which you guys may have seen which have since been sold! If you are asking for something in particular for Christmas make sure your rents put it by, or come in as soon as they can, or find out if we can order it for you. I'd hate for you guys to have asked for a deck and not got it cos its been sold, or your parents came in too late!

To keep you up to date with board brands - we have new Plan B and Harmony decks arriving all the time, including the new Plan B acid trip decks and wheels from tomorrow, all Enjoi, Blind, Almost, Speed Demons and Darkstar decks and completes are coming next thurs which are hot for christmas, new decks from Death, Heroin, Landscape are coming next week too. It's Cold!

OK so it is getting pretty cold now, and ramps and parks are getting frosty, so now even if it hasn't rained it can be wet with dew and frost, pretty whack! But come on, there are loads of car parks in town that are dry, and a couple of extra layers will keep you warm! We have been taking a block down to a car park in the evening, trying to get a few lines for the video.
It is taking longer than I anticipated to finish off, everyone just needed a last few tricks but the weather has been rubbish, and paggers swanned off to New York when we need to film his enders, hopefully it will be worth the wait though!

Oh and I heard today that Document is finishing after the next issue, it really is a sad state of affairs at the moment, Slaps last ever issue is this month too, and Slap was definately one of my favourite mags! Malto vs Donovan

THIS is definately the most exciting thing that has happened to me this week, maybe thats a bit sad, but the hype around this game of skate has been HUGE! Malto is obviously amazing, but Donovan is the epitomy of an underdog.
Oh and from tomorrow if you didn't know the government has cut VAT by 2.5%, which isn't much, but it does mean we will be knocking that much off all the marked prices instore!
And don't forget we now do undercarriage deals saving you around a tenner on full set-ups.

Antiz competition!

If you didn't know, Antiz are amazing. They are a gnarly European company in a sea full of tech ledge euro guys and when I saw their first video I thought they were awesome, and it wasn't just me that thought so, Steve Forstner was offered a pro contract with one of the big American companies.

UK Champs

This is a bit late but here is the first vid of two of the UK Champs presented by mr Marc Churchill!Part 1.

The Reskue Remix DVD is nearing completion, and this is the last weekend the team have to film! Then the editing will be finalised next week, we'll get them copied so it should be ready for sale in about two weeks!

Black Box again!

So all the new Black Box stuff is now online, including the Duraslicks and Zero bearings and there is also a Ten Tricks with Jamie Tancowny.

We have a whole bunch of stuff from ZERO, Mystery and $lave in again including the Children of Bodom deck in two sizes, we also have some new stuff including the latest Pete Eldridge deck and the Zero single skull deck in an 8"! As well as the new Duraslick decks, all that stuff will be online from tomorrow.
We are off to film for the Reskue Remix at Kings.

Zero Decks

The aftershock of how good the Fallen video is seems to have come through, cos we have sold more Zero boards than usual recently, which is good, all Black boards (Zero, Mystery and $lave) are real nice, my last few boards have been Zero or $lave and they have recently introduced new Duraslick decks.
Slicks were popular for a couple of years in the mid nineties, they basically had a sheet of plastic glued on the bottom of the deck and it kept slides long and consistent, supposedly they were stronger but they lost pop really quickly and got a dull thud instead of a nice pop when you hit your tail, but Jamie Thomas team have done a bit of research and come back with the slick idea with a much thinner sheet bonded to the deck that keeps the decks pop and adds strength, the decks will retail at £59.99 and if they last one sixth longer than a normal board then you are spending the same as a regular pro board and if they last longer than that then you are saving money! And with christmas coming up now might be the time to ask for one! We will have some in the next week or so.

A couple of clips

There are a few new clips of Drehobl and chums up at Thrasher and this weekends Battle at the Berrics are up too, i'm currently two for six in the comp! pretty rubbish!

We tried to go to Eastleigh bowl to get a few last minute lines of Tibs for the video last night, it was absolutely freezing for me filming, but Tibs ended up in a tee trying to get his line, so the moral is ermmm skate and you get warm?! You need to keep skating when its cold, don't let the wheather get you down! As long as its not raining get out there!

Skater Of The Year

Last Saturday Tibs came in and asked who I thought Thrasher Skater Of The Year was gonna be, I said Silas Baxter Neal, and lets just say it was a better guess than my Battle at the Berrics so far! Here is a little vid of Silas, the newest ATV to get the Thrasher award. A few people on forums and stuff have already been unsure if he deserves it, but how many other people have you seen do alley oop frontside flip wallrides? Silas is sick.

New Nomis!

We finally have the winter Nomis range in, including the first ever heated hoodie, I did give a heads up on this a few weeks ago and if you want one it is worth being quick as I don't think we can get any more! All the Nomis tees are made with a small percentage of spandex so they are a little stretchy with a nice soft feel but keep their shape really well.
Also there is a new trailer for the Blind Video over on their website, with Morgan Smith who also rides for Nomis!

Mystery promo!

There is a new Mystery promo up on their site, its really good too, and a lot longer than I was expecting! And a few guys that shop in Reskue helped get it made too, it was the guys that buy Mystery boards! If you buy companies boards then some of the money goes back to the company to pay the pro's, pay for trips, pay for filmers, pay for web space! Everything needs paying for and its only because of skaters buying the boards they can do it, its obvious really, but remember that when you buy a cheap board from companies that have no team, in a shop that isn't a true skate shop then you aren't supporting skateboarding, so you know where the extra cost is going on a pro board and if you like a certain skaters board then get it! If we don't have it we can always try and order it too!

The actual vid is gonna be ridiculous! It should be out next year, couple that with the Workshop and Flip vids and 09 looks like its gonna be a good year for skateboarding!

Also a few people have asked if we are doing the "Something for the weekend" comp again, and yes we are, the plan is to do it every spring and then a park comp in the summer, we didn't have our own park comp this year cos we supported FOUR other comps in the city but if you have a preference as to where we should do it next year let us know! We should also have a few demos and a bowl comp at Eastleigh too.

Apologies there haven't been any updates in a few days, but the Plan B and Globe promos were more than enough for a while i'd say! Here is a bit of footage shot by Taters of some of his Isle of Wight friends on a trip to Revolutionz.

I'm putting together a remix video of all the Reskue team and if everyone gives me the footage like they said I should have it done and ready to sell in about 3 weeks, there will be full sections from: Marc Churchill, Greg Nowik and Jed Cullen, Mark Tidbury, Andy MacIntosh, Josh Clark, Curt Jarman, Darren Tate and Joe Paget.
It won't be all new footage but rather a remix of all offcuts, unused footage, web edits and old video parts we have, trim it all down and everyone should have a good section, with a bit of new footage too, we even street skated last night! Check the Reyno!

A few years back you would never get this much footage for free, so it is worth supporting these companies so they can keep making videos!

Ok I hadn't actually watched them before I posted those links, but having just watched the Plan B one i'm kinda shocked, the skating is so good and it actually really made me want to go skating, maybe because of the lack of Robbie Williams! While a lot of people think Shecklers a douch his skating is undeniably good, his kickflip is double head height! the Danny Way footage is stupid and the Colin Mckay footage reminded me just how good he is, and this was all footage they aren't keeping for the actual video, only two years to wait!

Manny Mania!

So it is half term and younger types can skate as much as they want, but yesterday I still get told "Its cold" "There is nowhere to go".
There are 10+ skateparks in the Southampton area and there are spots for street skating, you just have to look! Scouting for spots with your mates can be half the fun!
So in the spirit of making do with what you have todays vid is the Cliche Gypsy Tour, the intro pretty much explains the whole thing so take a look.
Oh and at least its not raining, in fact its really sunny, so watch this with your Coco Pops and go skating!

Rannycakes!

I have been looking at THIS today.
If you don't know Babycakes is a "clothing" company, (they don't actually seem to have any custom designed clothing just designs printed on tees) which for some reason loads of people have got into and the guy who owns it, according to rumour, is now a millionaire!
Here are some prize quotes from them/him:

Clearly it is all highly original and not just a result of the emo/electro thing 14yr old girls seem to be into.
HOWEVER if this is where the money is I have decided to expand into a "clothing" line, using Reskue lunchtime lurker Ranny as the face (he has the best bone structure and currently works in Lush, so smells nice for the ladies)) so I am pleased to announce "Rannycakes" coming soon in the worst possible colours imaginable!

Girl Downtown showdown

Not as interesting as the Creature obstacle in my opinion, but here is some footage.

Creature stupidity!

If you don't know what the Downtown Showdown is basically about four companies make an obstacle to skate and they hold a jam style comp on each one, the Globe rep told me the other day about Jake Duncombes ridiculous transfer, imagine airing blind from something 8 feet away into a bank steeper than the thing at Kings Park?! Stupid!

I'll post the rest of them too.

5Boro - Danny Falla

I probably go on about this company too much, but I don't care, 5Boro are sick.
I love the east coast style of skating, the spots are more interesting so the skaters have to be more creative. Danny Falla from 5Boro has been coming up for a few years and is now turning pro, check out this little promo vid for him and see why he very much deserves to go pro! I hate to say I told you so, but I did.

5Boro has pretty much come up by word of mouth and a relentless demo schedule (they do demos almost every week) they have only recently started doing print adverts so it is understandable if you haven't heard of them, but the boards are sick, really nice shapes and poppy wood and the whole team are rippers.

New Vans!

Hello, there area few new Vans in to tide you over until our winter delivery, including the Shambles, Rowleys most recent pro shoe in a ltd edition Kurt Hayashi colourway, a Black Label La Cripta Dos shoe, and the classic AV Sk8-Low in Black/Snake.
All three are the classic waffle sole, which if you haven't tried skating in, you should, they are super grippy which is why so many gnarly guys wear em, when they want to know their board is definately under their feet!

We haven't had much from Stereo for a while but we are getting a whole bunch from them soon, along with Innes winter range, and Rebel 8 and Diamond too. All these companies are distributed in England by a skater owned distro and they are all skater owned companies so they deserve your support, here is a little vid welcoming Ben Gore to the Stereo team which always seem to find stylish well rounded skaters. sk8site.com isn't a website I frequent a lot, it is J Rogers, P Rod and TKs website, but there is some footage here of them and its undeniably good, Rogers seems to have lost his overly gangster kiddy steez and is just solid, and the front blunt to boardslide is pretty creative too!
P rod drops some pretty serious hammers too.

United by fate is a video from Globe that comes out every now and again, they always focus on one or two of their riders and the newest one is going to be on Greg Lutzka, with the last one on Chris Haslam, check out United By Fate HERE.
Globe also help Independent skate shops like us by having the "United By Skate" series of shoes, these are available first to skateshops like us before going to more mainstream stores perhaps the next season, this season we have the Black/Snake Haslam Sabaton model, which i got a pair of and they are really comfortable and great for skating in straight away, check them out HERE.

New Plan B

We now have a few of the new Plan B platinum series instore and online, so have a click to your right on the store and take a look, we also have restock on the popular Karma tube light decks and some Harmony and Satori wheels.
We also have the Silver in Barcelona DVD to view instore, which as well as the usual heads features Ronson Lambert, who is on Nomis clothing, take a look at some footage here.
We are one of the few stores to be getting the Nomis heated hoody in a few weeks, it has a battery pack and heating elements in to keep you warm in the winter, and sells out almost instantly everywhere with very little chance of any more stock so keep your eyes on the site if you want one! They sell for about $250 in the US which considering you normally pay the same in £ as $ you'll be pleased to hear they are way under £200, if you were lucky enough to find one on Ebay they have been going for £250+ so be quick!

As usual there is a bunch of new stuff up on the Berrics, they now also have a site called MyBerrics a bit like Myspace for skaters which is pretty sick, join up and become friends with Reskue!

Alex Moul On Video

It doesn`t seem that long ago that On Video was around but i guess most people haven`t even heard of it now! It was basically an offshoot of 411 which was a video magazine that came out every two months and On video was supposed to come out four times a year with more in depth looks at skaters, pretty much like Epicly Later`d does now.
This is a video of Alex Moul from On Video a few years back, I would hope you know Alex Moul is originally from Oxford way and used to skate with Reskue rider Greg Nowik all the time.
Check it out and then try and learn impossibles to realise how good he is.

Elwood Promo!

So here is a promo for Elwood with some sick skating in there, and we are actually going to be getting Elwood clothing too!
The team is awesome with Silas Baxter Neal, Kenny Anderson, Anthony Poppalardo, John Rattray and Dan Drehobl as well as some really good ams, and the clothing is really good too with ethically sound cotton and organic materials.

The Adventures of Joe Paget

In what I am hoping is going to become a regular feature we have here a video of Reskue local Joe Paget and the trials and tribulations of filming a new trick.

And as you may have noticed there hasn't been a post in a while and you know what that means? There has been loads going on! Whole new season range from Independent and Cliche, all online soon but come instore to get first look.

Thrasher comp

This is getting stupid, Thrasher held a comp for a very short time at a famous 16 stair spot with huge amounts of money up for grabs THIS is some of what went down. There is more coming soon too! The Backside 360 is so good! Leave us some comments with what you think.

Crimson?

We used to have quite a few Crimson decks, they were really good quality and at a good price too, but Kris Markovich who was supposed to be part owner of the company left and took most of the team.
we only want to sell brands that support skateboarding so a company without a team is a no no for us, but they have turned up with a whole new roster of guys and they are sick too, we may get more Crimson decks in the future but in the mean time enjoy the new riders!

Factory tour

Here is another look at a skateboard factory, specifically Dwindle, I always try and explain this to kids but not many boards are made as well as these. 5Boro and Jart are individually pressed too. And that is why pro boards are more than the cheaper 30 quiders.

New British stuff

We have had a load of new decksand wheels from Death, Heroin and Landscape including restosck of the Richie Jackson model.
We also got the classic Ricky Oyola deck too.

Epicly Later'd Competition

If you don't know what Epicly Later'd is then you don't read the blog enough, it is basically a kinda TV show with episodes on different skaters, finding out about there lives and such, but not your everyday rockstar skaters so no Bam or Sheckler, actual good skaters like Jerry Hsu, Steve Rodriguez, Andrew Reynolds.
They recently did a whole bunch of episodes on one of my favourite skaters, John Cardiel, and it pretty much turned into a full length documentary. Thanks to Vans we have three copies to give away, and you do want one!

Here is this years Red Bull Manny Mania in NYC, hate to big myself up too much but if you are a regular blog reader you'll remember me saying this event would be popular a while ago. here is what people have been saying about it.
Oh and we have been saying how good Willow is and he popped up on the cover of Sidewalk this month.
So knowing that unlike any other shop in town we might actually have our finger on the pulse of what is going on in skateboarding bear in mind that the Flip and Alien Workshop videos ARE going to be amazing, start saving kids, watching it crappy on youtube doesn't give you the same affect and isn't helping the companies who made em.
If you wanna rock boards from those companies we just got these too.

We try and cater to all types of skaters here at Reskue but it could be said my roots are more hesh than fresh so i was stoked to read a review of the new Fallen vid "Ride the Sky" which said this in: "This XX minutes of film will give faith to the hesh-skaters that skateboarding hasnt fallen exclusively to the new-era hat wearing, Xgames aspiring, MTV show having fad the current generation seem happy to let our culture die in. Skatings back - it's dirty, it bleeds, but if the Fallen can get up and Ride the Sky, skating is alive and kicking in 2008."

80'S Bro!!!

Quiksilver put on an 80's comp recently, and this little edit is made to look like it is actually from the 80's, its pretty fun stuff.

As well as this we have had LOADS of new stuff in, Boards from Flip, Alien Workshop, Habitat, Black Label, Krooked, Real, Anti Hero and the first board from Dave Bachinsky which comes with the "what the f'#k is a Bachinsky DVD, all of which will be online tomorrow, We also have wheels from Hubba and Spitfire, Bearings and trucks are all well restocked too, including the new Haslam Indy stage 10s and they are online now!
We also have a load of new Jart boards still at just £35 in a whole range of sizes and some Jart wheels which are only 20 squid and pro models from Bastien and Danny Gonzalez.

Here is a video of the Etnies team in Barcelona and it is pretty much full length, you are pretty lucky these days to get full length videos for free! Skaters used to be really excited when a new video came out and they were always about £20!

5Boro

I might have posted THIS interview with Steve Rodriguez from 5Boro before, but i guess some kids might still not know how good this company is, here is what he says about their boards:"This is usually an "industry secret" and I've always been told to be vague but our boards are made in the USA (Alabama specifically) of Canadian Hard Rock Maple - our woodshop takes great pride in the manufacture and screening of the boards and we prefer to spend a little more in the process by pressing the boards with the upmost quality and precision. This choice was rough because to spend this much time on each board individually costs much more but we all know the feeling of how bummed we are when you set up a new board only to break it when you know it should not have broke. I'm not saying that 5boro boards don't break but I am saying that the craftsmanship is second to none."

There is a hefty amount of footage over at this site for a German skate mag.

Busted!

The ledges at the library in town are skateable again and some kids went to check them out the other day, and classically came back saying they were kicked out.
Just remember to go to spots after they have closed, be friendly and courteous when you are kicked out of spots, being an idiot just gives skateboarding a bad name and you can always get a bit of a skate.
I'm gonna post up a few classic spots now and again on here because I keep hearing you guys complaining about a lack of spots.
Most security in town is ok really and there are probably a lot more spots than you realise, just be glad you don't live in New York:

Stuff and stuff

We have had some new stuff in, the Deathwish DVD! Its fifteen bucks so kinda pricy but you know Baker/Deathwish DVD's are instant classics, it is only available for a limited time too so pick one up! (or watch it on you tube in crappy quality not knowing what half the tricks are)
We also have the Landscape Joleon Pressey aka Joey Crack wheels in, and if I haven't said it enough already he was originally from New Milton along with Benny Fairfax, so represent the New Forest and pick em up!
Also the X Games was on the other night and you could watch it live on the web, after Jake Browns little mishap last year all eyes were on the mega ramp, and it was Danny Way that nearly killed himself this year, oof!

If you are feeling more raw street than extreme then you should check out the new TRAFFIC PROMO, I personally really like Traffic as a company, all the riders are sick and all the footage makes you want to go skating straight away. One In A Million

There as a cool comp that SLAP do every year where kids send in footage which gets voted on and picked by the mag staff and then the winner gets a full interview in SLAP, SLAP is one of the best mags out there and always has awesome photos at real and rugged spots, and their comp entries are no different, check out the honorable mentions vid too if only for the front board biggerspin, one of the best of the new generation of tricks popping up.

Sweets is a video from Sweet skateboards, a Swedish company you have probably never heard of, it is free with Kingpin magazine this month but nobody buys magazines anymore.
It is really good, even if just to see a whole bunch of new spots it would be good, but the skating is really good too, pick a copy up!
